Carlye Packer is pleased to announce House Parté, an exhibition of works by more than 25 artists. The show and site-specific multimedia installation that features art by contemporary iconoclasts such as John Waters, Henry Taylor, Sigmar Polke, and more. The pieces are bright, colorful and cheeky, and contemplate the American sense of "home". A concept that we are all familiar with; a house that is littered with inanimate objects both high and low brow, and that speaks to a larger culture of excess, individualism and consumption. The exhibition is on view from August 7th, 2021 through to the 31st.

The name of the show is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the juxtaposing and often polarizing ways in which people experience fine art. Art is often presented in sterile, exclusive environments catered to society’s “elite”. By removing the works from these often unattainable spaces, and planting them in a warm, inviting, classic southern-california style home, the viewer is welcomed to take in the works while existing alongside them.

The exhibition spans generations - it includes pieces by well known, established artists such as the “Pope of Trash” himself, John Waters, and contemporary portrait artist Henry Taylor. Amongst their works will be new and recent paintings, scultures, ceramics and site specific installations by Sigmar Polke, Aaron Curry, Gaetano Pesce, Emily Barker, Sula Bermudez-Silverman, Sangree, Ser Serpes, Gabriela Ruiz, Barragan, Alexis Ross. Aisling Hamrogue, Urara Tsuchiya, HAAS Brothers, Ariana Papademetropolous, Isabelle Albuquerque, Manuela Soto, Sarah Slappey, Helen Teede, Scott Young, Amanda Ba, and George Rouy, amongst others to be confirmed soon.

Many of the artists featured in House Párty come from varying and divergent backgrounds. Yet somehow the work seems to share a familiar theme; voyeurism, surveillance, and day to day scenes, fleeting images and objects that imbue the Western cultural landscape with its American twang. The architect who designed the house, Jack Meiselman, is responsible for popularizing the relaxed, mid-century style of many Palm Springs homes that visitors and locals have come to know and love. Meiselman structures feature angled rooflines, post and beam ceilings, abundant, light-filled rooms that showcase glass walls and clerestory windows, and the signature indoor-outdoor flow that encourages a dialogue with the interior vs the exterior. The house will be void of all furniture, save for the works themselves, which will create a flow throughout the space that invites viewers to stay, go, gather, or linger in particular corners of the bungalow.

The exhibition will run August 7the - 31st. It will be open daily from 11:00 am - 6:00 pm by appointment only.
