Victor Barragán
Nursing Home
May 14 - June 11, 2022

Carlye Packer is pleased to present Nursing Home, a solo exhibition of sculpture by fashion designer Victor Barragán. This will be the Mexico City-based artist’s first solo presentation in the United States.

Nursing Home showcases objects that open a new conversation between sculpture and utility. The old, industrial, raw materials used give a polished and sexy veneer in stark contrast to the use of intimidating, almost dangerous seeming spikes. The pieces play with ideas of pleasure and pain, particularly pointing to the ones that we experience daily in our personal and work life.

Barragán (b. 1992, Mexico City) studied industrial design at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in Mexico City. His first fashion label, YtinifninfinitY started in 2010. It was an exploration of Tumblr and Inter-net Culture, and quickly gained a cult following amongst the millenial net community. YtinifninfinitY eventually morphed and by 2014, the brand BARRAGÁN was established.

Today, BARRAGÁN is an experimental underground fashion label which plays with gender and identity politics through clothing, questioning our modern day consumption of fashion, media, and pop culture, as well as our contemporary modes of dress, consumption and living. His work has been covered by Vogue, ELLE, The Cut, WWD Paper Magazine, the Financial Times, Dazed, Office Magazine, The New York Times, Highsnobriety, Harper’s Bazaar, TIME, amongst many others.

This exhibition marks Barragán’s first major move into the realm of sculpture.
